36 Boys and 26 Girls in the 1995 age group came together at Union for training, small-sided matches, team building, goal setting, and match analysis sessions throughout the weekend.
On Friday afternoon, players checked into their rooms and then met for a
brief meeting with the staff. Following the meeting the boys
headed out to the field for a street soccer tournament while the girls
met with their coaches for some team building activities.
When the boys finished, they headed back for some team building and the
girls headed out for their own street soccer tournament.
Saturday morning came early as breakfast was at 7:15 am. After breakfast, the girls headed out for their first training session of the day while the boys headed to the classroom for a goal setting session. The girls trained hard for an hour and a half and then headed to the classroom for their goal setting session while the boys trained. After lunch, each group had another training session and a classroom session before resting up for the beginning of their World Cup tournament.
The girls were split into three teams; Brazil, Argentina, and Germany. On Saturday evening they played preliminary group games to determine who would get the automatic bid to the finals. When all was said and done on Saturday evening, Argentina edged out Brazil in a tie breaker to advance to the finals. That would mean Germany (loser of both preliminary matches) would face off against Brazil to determine the championship match against Argentina. In a close semi-final, Germany came back from a goal down to defeat Brazil and advance to the final against Argentina. The Germans would not back down against the skillful South American side, but in the end, the extra rest paid off for Argentina as they one in a close final 1-0.
Congratulations to all players, Staff, and Administrators for a great weekend of development! We look forward to seeing everyone at ODP Tryouts in August! The 2007/08 season will feature Kentucky Youth Soccer Association continuing the new and exciting Player Development Program. The exclusive purpose of the PDP is to promote player development through training and playing opportunities. It will also keep more players involved with the program by giving them an insight to the state Olympic Development Program. The PDP is strictly for players born in the 1996 birth year with all the activities taking place in the state of Kentucky except on tournament in Alabama. After the try-outs in August the players selected will be invited to attend five in-state pool training sessions followed by an intra-state play day and a mini-camp to take place in Kentucky. This age group will not travel with the Olympic Development Program to regional events. Please click on the calendar link at the left for a full schedule for the team for the seasonal year. |
